Pre-summit Program Overview
July 17

In addition to the main Summit program, there will be a Pre-Summit on July 17, which will include the following interactive seminar.

Seminar 1:
The Leader’s Compass: Knowing Yourself, Knowing What You Believe In and Overcoming Ethical Dilemmas.

Session I
The Energize2Lead Profile™ Assessment

The Energize2Lead Profile™ identifies what types of activities energize a leader as well as what activities can lead to frustration. The survey results unleash the power of the three dimensions of a leader’s energy: (1) Preferred Styles; (2) Expectations; and (3) Instinctive Needs

The profile provides leaders abundant and rich information about themselves and their people. It provides data that allows tailoring of specific program elements to address the organization’s specific needs, and to plan, manage, and execute workplace behavior changes. Finally the importance of the difference between real and perceived cannot be ignored. Even if it is not possible to change the organizational structure or culture to accommodate the desires of others in the organization, it is critical to recognize and address the gaps.

At the conclusion of the workshop you will truly have greater knowledge on “knowing yourself” and use the results of the survey and assessment to be more effective and productive as a leader.

Session II
Writing your Personal Leadership Philosophy (Leader’s Compass): Creating Credibility and Trust

Successful leaders know their Personal Leadership Philosophy (PLP) and communicate it by living it passionately everyday in all they say and do. The have taken the time to determine who they are, their values and priorities. They know their course and have set their internal compass, which gives them greater self-knowledge, greater self-confidence, and improved effectiveness as a leader.

This is accomplished by writing a Personal Leadership Philosophy, which states the core values you live by, what you will expect of your people, what they can expect of you, and how you will evaluate performance. Writing your PLP is not an easy exercise; during this session, you will write your first draft, with the help and feedback from your colleagues and the facilitator.

At the conclusion of the process and upon writing you PLP, you will:

  • Learn the eleven leadership principles and how leaders utilize them to be successful
  • Understand the #1 problem in leadership communication and how the Personal Leadership Philosophy (PLP) solves it
  • Learn what a PLP is and why it acts like a compass
  • Learn how the PLP makes a leaders more effective
  • Understand the characteristics of the best and worst leaders
  • Understand how leaders influence their followers by providing purpose, direction and motivation

Session III
Character Excellence: Dealing with and Overcoming Ethical Dilemmas

This seminar will provide leaders with an opportunity to discuss, evaluate, and solidify their own beliefs and values while learning with reference to others, particularly when two virtues conflict. The challenge may not be to determine the right course of action but to determine how one goes about building a foundation upon which an ethical course of action is the one taken routinely.

Participants will receive a copy of Inspiring Leadership: Character and Ethics Matter and an accompanying workbook. The workbook will be used as material during this session to permit attendees to review and discuss four business case studies related to ethical dilemmas. There are no training manual for honor, no overhead projections or PowerPoint presentations that teach courage when faced with an ethical dilemma. There is only shared experience and reflection regarding examples of those who hit the mark and those who miss by a wide margin. This session will delve deeply into such experiences and engage participants in discussions that aim to prepare leaders for the ethical dilemmas they’ll face.
